Poyi Uganda Film Fixers – Building a Structured Gateway to East Africa

Some projects don’t need to be invented.

They already exist, already deliver value, and already operate in demanding environments. What they often lack is not capability, but structure — a way to present themselves clearly to international clients and to expand beyond their current reach.

Poyi Uganda Film Fixers is one of those projects.

Operating across Uganda and neighbouring countries, Poyi provides essential on-the-ground support to international film crews. From securing permits and arranging logistics to providing local crews, transport, and drone services, the operation is built around practical execution in environments where reliability matters.

The demand is already there.

A significant part of their work comes from international productions, particularly from Europe and the UK, where producers rely on local expertise to navigate complex filming conditions. What has been missing, however, is a structured commercial layer that makes these services easier to access, understand, and scale.

This is where Bookingbox became involved.

Rather than approaching this as a traditional market entry project, the focus has been on commercialising what already exists. The objective is to transform a strong local operation into a clearly positioned, internationally accessible service offering, while preserving the flexibility and local expertise that define the business.

The first step has been to bring structure to the way services are presented.

Instead of a broad list of capabilities, the offering is being shaped into clearly defined, client-facing services that align with how international production teams plan and budget their work. This makes it easier for production companies to understand what is available, how it is delivered, and how it fits into their own production workflows.

For international productions, Bookingbox acts as the structured entry point into these services.

This ensures clear communication, defined scope, and alignment between production requirements and local execution. It also allows clients to access a broader regional network through a single point of contact, reducing complexity when operating across multiple countries.

Alongside this, Bookingbox is supporting the expansion of the model into neighbouring countries.

Poyi is already active beyond Uganda, with operations extending into Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. The next phase focuses on strengthening this regional presence by creating a consistent, recognisable approach across East Africa, while maintaining the local partnerships and knowledge that make each location operationally viable.

This is not about centralising operations.

It is about creating a structured gateway into the region — allowing international clients to access multiple markets through a commercially coordinated and reliable framework.

At the same time, work is being done to strengthen the commercial foundations of the project.

This includes refining how services are presented, aligning pricing logic with international expectations, and identifying potential partnerships that can support growth. The objective is not rapid expansion, but sustainable development — building a model that can scale without losing its operational strength on the ground.

Poyi Uganda Film Fixers reflects a broader approach taken by Bookingbox in selected early-stage projects.

Rather than introducing something entirely new, the focus is on recognising existing value, structuring it commercially, and creating the conditions for it to grow across markets. In this case, that means turning a proven local operation into a regional platform that connects international productions with East Africa in a more accessible and reliable way.

As the project continues to develop, the commercial offering and service structure will be presented in more detail.

What is already clear, however, is that the foundation is in place — combining local execution with a commercial framework that allows it to reach further.

If you are planning a production in East Africa, you can discuss your requirements directly with Bookingbox to structure the right approach for your project.
